Among Belarus's most spectacular structures, Nesvizh Castle stands as a magnificent palace within the Niasviž Estate, ranking among the country's most famous and exquisite historic landmarks. It was the seat of the Radziwills, the most powerful magnate family of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, who rebuilt an earlier fortress into a residence from the end of the 16th century and went on extending it for three hundred years. The result, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is a courtyard palace whose ranges combine Renaissance, Baroque and later work behind earth bastions and a moat, set in a landscape park of lakes and avenues. In the town below, the family's Corpus Christi Church holds their dynastic crypt.
