A masterpiece of Ukrainian Baroque architecture, St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery stands on the right bank of the Dnieper River in Kyiv. First founded in the early twelfth century, it was demolished by the Soviet authorities in the 1930s and rebuilt in the late 1990s after Ukraine regained independence, making it as much a monument to national memory as to faith. This documentary explores its striking design, the brilliant azure walls, white detailing and gilded cupolas that give the monastery its name, alongside its deep connection to the religious and cultural history of the region. Its free-standing bell tower and refectory church complete an ensemble that has become one of Kyiv's defining silhouettes.
