Located on a rocky spur in the Aosta Valley, in the commune of Arvier, the Castello di Montmayeur overlooks an ancient strategic route. This documentary explores the castle's ruins, military function and commanding landscape, revealing its role in controlling passage through the valley. Isolated far from any settlement and reached only on foot, it takes its name from the noble family that held it, and its remote perch earned it the nickname the vulture's nest. What survives, dominated by the remains of its tower, offers an unusually undisturbed picture of alpine feudal fortification, untouched by the later remodelling that transformed the valley's other castles.
