Jaffa is among the oldest continuously used ports on the eastern Mediterranean, a rocky promontory with a natural anchorage that has served traders, pilgrims and invaders across successive civilisations. Today the old town is a compact quarter of honey-coloured stone: vaulted alleys restored as studios and galleries, stairways dropping to the harbour, a flea market that has become one of the city's social centres, and churches, mosques and a clock tower standing within a few streets of each other, marking the layered communities that have made the place. Below, the working harbour still lands fish, while the rocks offshore carry the classical legend of Andromeda. The film sets Jaffa against its immediate neighbour and successor: from the promontory, the entire skyline of modern Tel Aviv opens along the shore, making the contrast between ancient port and twentieth-century city visible in a single frame. Archaeology, urban restoration, the Arab and Jewish life of the quarter, and the sea itself provide the material — a strongly visual portrait of a city in which every period has left its stones.
