High above the confluence of the Volga and the Kazanka, the Kazan Kremlin is the clearest architectural expression of Tatarstan's double inheritance. Behind long white limestone walls, an Orthodox cathedral of the Annunciation and the great Qol Sharif Mosque, rebuilt in the modern era with its blue minarets, stand within sight of one another, while the leaning brick Söyembikä Tower marks the skyline of the citadel. The site succeeded a Tatar khanate fortress and was rebuilt after the city's conquest in the 16th century, layering periods and faiths in a single enclosure. Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, it remains the political and symbolic heart of the republic. Filmed in 4K, the programme surveys the walls and towers from the air, enters both sanctuaries, and reads Kazan as a working model of coexistence.
