Situated in the historic heart of the city, the majestic Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Saviour stands as a defining symbol of Dnipro and one of Ukraine's most prominent religious buildings. Its foundation stone was laid in 1787, during Catherine the Great's celebrated progress through the newly acquired southern lands, though the church seen today was completed only in the 1830s, in a restrained classical idiom of columned portico, pale walls and a single dominant dome.
