A Russian monastery founded in 1374 and deeply tied to the history of Serpukhov, the Vysotsky Monastery takes its name from the scenic hill on which it was built, high above the Nara River. It was established at the request of Prince Vladimir the Bold and blessed by Sergius of Radonezh, placing it among the foundations that shaped Muscovy's spiritual geography in the age of the struggle against the Horde. Its cathedral, gate church and bell tower, largely rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries, give the ensemble its present white-walled profile. Today it stands as a testament to more than six centuries of Orthodox monastic life and remains an active community.
