Wat Chong Kham, Mae Hong Son, Thailand

Wat Chong Kham, Mae Hong Son, Thailand

Wat Chong Kham stands beside the tranquil public pond of Nong Chong Kham in Mae Hong Son, its image reflected in the still water to create one of the town's most iconic views. Dating to the early nineteenth century, the temple was built in the distinctive Burmese-Shan architectural style that defines much of the region's sacred heritage, with tiered wooden roofs rising in diminishing stages towards a gilded crown. It shares its lakeside terrace with the neighbouring Wat Chong Klang, the two sanctuaries forming a single ensemble that is illuminated after nightfall and doubled in the water below. The film captures both the daily devotions of the town and the seasonal festivals that gather around the pond.
