Bauhaus 'Tel-Aviv White City', Israel (Part 2)

The renowned Bauhaus architectural movement originated at a German school dedicated to art, architecture and design from 1919 to 1933. This second installment continues exploring one of its largest collections outside Europe, found in Tel Aviv's White City, an ensemble inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The episode follows the boulevards and residential streets at the centre of the district, where several thousand buildings in the International Style were raised from the 1930s onward, and looks closely at how their architects adapted a northern European idiom to the Mediterranean, with deep balconies, shaded openings, rounded corners and roof terraces conceived as shared communal space.
