This two-part documentary explores Beit She'arim, a renowned Greek and Roman city famed for its extensive necropolis. Visitors journey through a remarkable series of catacombs, tunnels, and caves that reveal the site's rich funerary history. After the destruction of the Second Temple the town became a centre of Jewish learning, seat of the Sanhedrin and of Rabbi Judah the Prince, and its hillside was quarried into burial halls that drew Jewish families from across the Mediterranean. Sarcophagi in stone, marble and lead survive alongside inscriptions in Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek and Palmyrene, and the necropolis is inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
