Set in Italy's Aosta Valley, near Saint-Pierre, the Castello Sarriod de la Tour is a striking medieval residence distinguished by its fortified structure and intricately carved wooden ceiling. Unlike the castles built as a single block, it grew by accretion around an early tower, enclosed within a curtain wall, and long belonged to the Sarriod family, among the valley's leading noble lineages. Its celebrated Hall of Heads takes its name from the carved figures set into the beams, a rare survival of late-medieval domestic woodwork.
