Within walking distance of Wat Choum Khong lies the morning market, tucked along the streets behind the Royal Palace in Luang Prabang. Held in the early hours, it brings a brief bustle to lanes that otherwise remain quiet for the rest of the day. Vendors arrive before dawn and set out their goods on low tables and mats: vegetables and herbs from the surrounding hills, fish from the Mekong and the Nam Khan, sticky rice, grilled skewers and sweets wrapped in banana leaf.
