Clinging dramatically to a cliff face, the Monastery of Saint George of Choziba, known in Arabic as Mar Jaris, ranks among the world's oldest monasteries, dating back to the 4th century CE. This striking Greek Orthodox institution is suspended above Wadi Qelt, the gorge that carries the ancient pilgrim road between Jerusalem and Jericho, and is reached on foot along a path descending the canyon wall.
