산타 마리아 델레 그라치에, 밀라노

산타 마리아 델레 그라치에, 밀라노

Santa Maria delle Grazie is two buildings in one. The Dominican church begun in the Gothic manner was extended at the end of the fifteenth century by a monumental tribune, a great domed space of brick and stone attributed to Bramante, in which the geometry of the early Renaissance is stated with absolute clarity. Beside it, in the convent's refectory, Leonardo da Vinci painted the Last Supper on the end wall, using an experimental technique that began to deteriorate almost at once and has made the work the object of centuries of study and restoration. The church and the refectory together form one of Italy's most visited UNESCO World Heritage sites, with access to the mural strictly limited. Filmed in 4K, the programme covers the architecture, the cloisters and the history of a complex where Renaissance building and Renaissance painting stand a few metres apart.
