므라모리예: 페루차츠의 스테치

므라모리예: 페루차츠의 스테치

Scattered across the western Balkans, the stećci are among the most enigmatic monuments in Europe: massive limestone tombstones, cut as slabs, chests or gabled blocks, and carved with a vocabulary of crescents, rosettes, arcades, hunting scenes, raised hands and dancing figures whose meaning is still debated. The necropolis of Mramorje at Perućac, on a terrace above the Drina, preserves a remarkable concentration of them, standing in open grass with the river below. The film films the carvings in raking light, where the low relief comes alive, and sets out what is established about their period, their makers and their distribution, while being candid about how much remains unknown. The site belongs to a serial inscription on the World Heritage List shared by Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia. A distinctive archaeology title with real visual singularity.
