Linh Ung Pagoda, Vietnam

Linh Ung Pagoda, Vietnam

This documentary journeys to Son Tra Mountain, ten kilometers northeast of central Da Nang, to explore Linh Ung Pagoda, a striking spiritual landmark set amid the mountain's forested slopes overlooking the city and coastline. Completed in 2010, the temple is dominated by a white statue of Quan Am, the bodhisattva of compassion, which rises some 67 metres and faces out to sea, watching over the fishing fleets of the bay. Around it spread landscaped terraces, a main hall and rows of carved stone arhat figures, framed by the peninsula's protected forest. The film uses the site's elevated position to set devotional architecture against one of central Vietnam's most dramatic coastal panoramas.
