The renowned Bauhaus architectural movement originated at a German school dedicated to art, architecture and design from 1919 to 1933. This third installment concludes our exploration of one of its largest collections outside Europe, found in Tel Aviv's White City, an ensemble inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It turns to the afterlife of the district: the decades of neglect that left the white render greyed and the balconies enclosed, the conservation programme that has since returned individual buildings to their original condition, and the question of how a working city of several thousand modernist houses is kept in use rather than preserved as a museum.
