Jafa: Um Percurso pelo Porto Antigo

Jafa: Um Percurso pelo Porto Antigo

Long before the modern city grew to the north, Jaffa was the landing point for the interior: for pilgrims, for merchants, for the citrus trade that carried its name abroad. The old town sits on a low headland of sandstone above the harbour, a compact maze of vaulted lanes, stairways and courtyards, restored over recent decades and now shared by artists' studios, workshops and homes. Below, the fishing port still functions. Inland, the flea market spills across several streets, and the skyline mixes church towers, minarets and the terraces of a mixed Jewish and Arab population. Filmed in 4K, the programme takes the form of a walk rather than a lecture, following the light from the sea through the alleys and looking north along the shoreline to the towers of Tel Aviv. Suited to city portraits and Mediterranean strands.
