Tel Shiqmona sits directly on the Mediterranean at the point where the slopes of Mount Carmel reach the shore in Haifa. It is a modest rise rather than a towering mound, but its position — a sheltered coast, a promontory, a link between sea traffic and the hinterland — made it a place of settlement over long stretches of antiquity. Excavation across the tel has exposed successive occupation levels: walls and building foundations, floors, industrial installations and evidence of the crafts practised by a community that lived from the sea and from what the coast could produce. Around the archaeological area, the site now forms part of the Haifa seafront, where waves break against rock a few metres from the ancient remains. Filmed in 4K, Shiqmona has a distinctive visual identity within a heritage catalogue: not desert or hill country but a maritime archaeology, shot with the surf in frame, in the changing light of a west-facing coast. It offers a short, atmospheric subject and a way into a wider theme — the ancient economy of the Levantine shore and its dependence on the sea.
