Located in Isfahan, Iran, the Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque is a masterpiece of Safavid architecture. This documentary explores its unique design, refined proportions and exceptional tilework, revealing the artistic and spiritual sophistication of one of Iran's most celebrated mosques. Built in the early 17th century under Shah Abbas I on the eastern side of Naqsh-e Jahan Square, it was conceived as a private oratory for the court rather than a congregational mosque, and so has neither minarets nor courtyard. A bent corridor turns the visitor from the square towards Mecca before opening into a single domed chamber, where light from pierced grilles moves across cream and turquoise tilework. The square was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979.
