Prague is one of the very few great European capitals whose historic core survived the twentieth century almost intact, and its centre is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The episode follows the city's essential geography: the castle district on the heights, with its cathedral and palaces; the descent to the Vltava; the Charles Bridge with its file of statues; the Old Town Square, its astronomical clock and the towers that frame it; and the streets of the former Jewish quarter.
