阿尔扎凯纳:撒丁岛的巨石地景

阿尔扎凯纳:撒丁岛的巨石地景

Gallura, in the north of Sardinia, is a country of wind-sculpted granite, cork oaks and low scrub. Around Arzachena, this landscape conceals an exceptional group of prehistoric monuments, brought together as an archaeological park. The giants' tombs — long collective graves fronted by a semicircular forecourt and a great carved stele — belong to the Bronze Age Nuragic civilisation, as do the massive dry-stone towers known as nuraghi, built without mortar by a people who left no written record. Older still, the necropolis of circles shows an earlier way of burying the dead. Together they document more than a thousand years of ritual and construction on the same ground. Filmed in 4K with aerial coverage, the programme reads these structures as architecture: how the stone was chosen, raised and fitted, and how the monuments relate to the horizon around them. A rigorous archaeological subject set in a landscape of great cinematic strength.
