贝鲁特穆罕默德·阿明清真寺

贝鲁特穆罕默德·阿明清真寺

No building states the paradox of Beirut more plainly. Raised in the rebuilt city centre, the Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque adopts a monumental Ottoman-inspired vocabulary — a great blue dome carried on a square prayer hall, half-domes, and four tall minarets that redrew the skyline of the Lebanese capital. A few metres away stands the Maronite cathedral of Saint George, its bell tower and the minarets sharing the same view: a proximity that photographs cannot avoid and that speaks directly to Lebanon's confessional coexistence. The film explores the vast interior, its carpets, chandeliers, calligraphy and mihrab, and the ordered movement of worshippers at prayer times. It then widens to Martyrs' Square and the surrounding downtown, a district shaped by war, demolition and reconstruction. The result is both an architectural portrait and a reading of contemporary Beirut. Filmed in 4K including aerial coverage of the dome and skyline.
