The Golden Dome Mosque, Indonesia

The Golden Dome Mosque, Indonesia

The Dian Al-Mahri Mosque, better known as the Golden Dome Mosque, stands along Raya Street in Depok City, West Java, a short distance south of Jakarta. Completed in the 2000s and named after its founder, it is laid out on a monumental scale, with a broad marble prayer hall, tall minarets and landscaped grounds designed to receive very large congregations. Its architecture draws on Middle Eastern models, and the gold-clad domes that give the mosque its popular name are its defining feature, catching the light above the surrounding suburbs. Beyond serving as a place of daily worship, those domes and expansive grounds have made it a popular family destination and holiday retreat.
