القدّيس يوحنا وتيرّا سانكتا، عكّا

Acre's Latin Christian presence goes back to the age of the Crusader kingdom, and the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land has long maintained a foothold in the city. The church of Saint John, near the old harbour, and the Terra Sancta buildings alongside it, form the current expression of that continuity: a modest complex of church, convent and school within the walls, serving a small local community rather than crowds of pilgrims. From the sea wall, the church's dome stands out against the roofs and minarets of the old town, part of a skyline in which several confessions are legible at once. Filmed in 4K, the programme places the church within the fabric of the walled city and its port, and works alongside titles on Crusader and Ottoman Acre in a heritage strand.
