There is no high ground in this part of the Vojvodina, so the builders of Bač used water instead. Set on a branch of the Mostonga among marshes and reed beds, the fortress relied on flooded approaches as much as on its brick curtain walls and towers, and the result is one of the most complete medieval fortifications surviving in the Serbian Danube plain. The film surveys the site from the air, where the geometry of the enclosure and its moat reads most clearly, then moves inside to the keep, the gate tower and the archaeological work that has gradually recovered the plan. Around the fortress, the small town of Bač preserves further layers of a long-contested frontier region, where Hungarian, Ottoman and Habsburg authority succeeded one another.
