In Grodno, one of Belarus's most beautiful cities, stands a unique example of Eastern Orthodox architecture and a hallmark of the Grodno School: the Church of Saints Boris and Gleb, a cherished piece of the country's historical and architectural heritage. Also known as the Kalozha church, it dates from the 12th century and is among the oldest surviving buildings in the country. Its walls are the school's signature: brickwork inset with polished field boulders and glazed majolica tiles arranged in crosses, with ceramic acoustic vessels built into the masonry to lighten the vaults and carry sound. Perched on a bluff above the Neman, it lost part of its south wall to a landslide in the 19th century, and the scar is still visible.
