Beit She'arim, explored across two episodes, was a Greek and Roman city and remains a renowned archaeological site, celebrated for its extensive necropolis. Visitors can discover a remarkable series of catacombs, tunnels, and caves that reveal the site's ancient funerary traditions. Set on a ridge at the edge of the Jezreel Valley in Lower Galilee, the town rose to prominence in the second and third centuries as a centre of Jewish learning, and its rock-cut burial halls drew families from across the Mediterranean and the Near East. Their sarcophagi and carved doorways bear inscriptions in Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek and Palmyrene, alongside menorahs and figurative motifs. The necropolis was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2015.
