Wat Chong Kham and Wat Chong Klang stand together beside the public pond of Nong Chong Kham in Mae Hong Son, their images reflected in the water to create one of the town's most iconic views, especially when illuminated at night. Dating to the early nineteenth century, both temples were built in the distinctive Burmese Shan architectural style, with tiered wooden roofs and filigree metalwork that speak to the community of Shan settlers who founded the town. Wat Chong Klang is known for its painted glass panels and carved wooden figures brought from Burma, illustrating scenes from the life of the Buddha.
