Die Herz-Jesu-Kirche

Die Herz-Jesu-Kirche

Devotion to the Heart of Christ became one of the most widely diffused forms of Catholic piety, carried by religious congregations to every continent and expressed in a dense visual language of images, chapels and dedications. Churches bearing the name are found throughout the Holy Land, generally serving a parish or a religious community rather than attracting pilgrimage, and their architecture tends to reflect the period and the order that built them rather than any ancient tradition attached to the ground. This programme approaches one of them as a portrait: proportions and materials, the way daylight enters and changes through the day, the furnishings of worship, and the rhythm of the community that uses it. Filmed in 4K, it is designed as a short, self-contained module for strands on sacred sites and religious life.
