Das Leben Marias

Das Leben Marias

No single life has left more places on the map of the Holy Land than that of the Virgin Mary. This programme follows the itinerary that tradition has drawn across the country, from the sanctuaries of Nazareth and the spring where the Orthodox rite places the first announcement, to the hill village of Ein Kerem and its church of the Visitation, and on to Jerusalem, where several communities hold sanctuaries connected to the end of her life, including the crypt in the Kidron valley venerated as her tomb. The film treats the subject the way the country itself presents it: as a set of sites, each with its own architecture, its own liturgy and its own custodians, where Latin, Greek Orthodox, Armenian and other traditions maintain distinct readings of the same figure. Along the way it observes how Marian devotion is actually practised — processions, feast days, candles, chants in many languages — and how deeply it shapes the pilgrimage economy of the region. Built as a thematic tour rather than a biography, the programme suits both religious strands and general cultural-heritage slots.
