The Cathedral of the Intercession takes its name from one of the most popular feasts of the Orthodox calendar, the Protection of the Mother of God, and its architecture belongs to the revivalist current that looked back to older Russian church building: clustered volumes, tent-like roofs, small onion domes, decorative brick and stone detailing, a bell tower rising over the entrance. The result is deliberately picturesque, a silhouette meant to be read from the street and from a distance. Inside, the plan opens towards a gilded iconostasis, with icons, painted vaults and the layered light of windows and candles. The episode is built for cultural strands on Orthodox heritage: it films the exterior as a study in massing and ornament, follows the liturgy and the chant within, and observes the cathedral's place in the everyday life of the town around it.
