Saint Vladimir's Cathedral commemorates the prince whose baptism Orthodox tradition places on the Crimean peninsula, an event later understood as the founding moment of Christianity among the Eastern Slavs. The building matches that ambition. Its architecture draws on Byzantine models, a broad dome over a compact, centralised plan, round-headed windows, banded masonry and a silhouette designed to dominate its surroundings. Inside, the scale is deliberately solemn: marble, dark cladding, mosaic and painted decoration, and a vertical pull towards the dome. The cathedral has been damaged and restored more than once, and that history of loss and repair is part of what the episode records. Filmed in 4K, it works both as architectural documentary, on the reinvention of Byzantine form in the modern age, and as a portrait of a site charged with religious and national memory.
