The City of David occupies a narrow rocky spur running south from the Temple Mount, outside the walls of today's Old City. It is here, beside the Gihon Spring, that ancient Jerusalem took shape, and here that archaeologists have concentrated their work through successive generations, making the site one of the most intensively excavated urban areas anywhere in the region. Visitors move through fortification remains, stepped stone structures, and an extraordinary underground water system: shafts and rock-cut channels culminating in the tunnel that carries spring water through the hill towards the Pool of Siloam, a passage that can still be walked, waist-deep, from end to end. The film gives full value to what makes this site cinematographic — the descent from open daylight into cool rock corridors, the sound of running water beneath a dense modern neighbourhood, the vertical stratigraphy of a place inhabited without interruption. It also shows archaeology as a living discipline: open trenches, wet sieving of excavated earth, and the constant negotiation between a working dig, a place of memory and the city that surrounds it.
