Il castello di Saint-Germain, Valle d'Aosta

Il castello di Saint-Germain, Valle d'Aosta

The Aosta Valley is a corridor between the highest mountains in Europe, and for centuries every family with power in it built to watch the road. Saint-Germain belongs to that system: a fortified site above the valley floor, where the masonry and the rock that supports it have weathered into a single mass, softened by grass and shrub. Its interest is as much visual as historical — the way a ruin composes with the slope behind it, the changing light on stone through the day, the vineyards and terraces below, the snowfields above. The programme films the site through the seasons and from the air, and sets it within the wider story of a valley whose castles form one of the densest concentrations of medieval fortification in the Alps. A quiet, atmospheric piece of landscape and heritage filming in 4K.
