Parrocchia di Nostra Signora di Guadalupe

Parrocchia di Nostra Signora di Guadalupe

Devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe runs deeper in Mexico than any other religious allegiance, and thousands of parishes across the country bear her name. This film enters one of them and stays with what can be seen. It begins with the exterior and the way the church anchors the streets and the square around it, then moves inside: nave, altar, side chapels, and above all the image of the Virgin before which candles burn all day and flowers accumulate. The camera follows the congregation rather than a narrative — women arriving before work, families at a baptism, the parish gathering for the great Marian feast, the singing that fills the building. Popular piety is filmed with respect and without commentary: petitions pinned to a board, medals, embroidered banners, the worn stone before the altar. A restrained, observational portrait of living Catholic practice in Mexico, filmed in 4K with natural sound.
