受胎告知のマロン派教会

受胎告知のマロン派教会

The Maronite Church is one of the historic Eastern Catholic communities of the Levant, in full communion with Rome while retaining its own hierarchy, its own liturgical calendar and a tradition of worship whose liturgical language is Syriac, a dialect of Aramaic. Its communities are dispersed across the region and, through a long history of emigration, across the world. This church, placed under the patronage of the Annunciation — the announcement made to Mary, one of the founding scenes of the Christian faith and a devotion central to the Christian presence in this land — belongs to that family. The programme approaches it through what makes it distinctive: the shape and ordering of the sanctuary, the icons and their treatment, the chant and its cadences, the vestments, the objects of worship, and the parish community that gathers on feast days. Interviews allow the community to describe its own tradition and its place among the many churches of the Holy Land. Filmed in 4K with sustained attention to low-light detail and to sound, it offers a compact, atmospheric portrait of a rite still practised and far too rarely filmed.
