ヤルデニット ヨルダン川の洗礼

ヤルデニット ヨルダン川の洗礼

Yardenit occupies the point where the Jordan leaves the Sea of Galilee and begins its descent towards the Dead Sea. Developed by a neighbouring kibbutz, it is a contemporary pilgrimage facility rather than an archaeological site: wooden decks and stone steps lead down to the slow green water, screened by eucalyptus and reeds. Groups arrive by the coachload, change into white robes, and enter the river singing in Portuguese, Amharic, Korean, Spanish or Russian; a wall of ceramic panels carries the Gospel verse on the baptism of Jesus in dozens of languages. The programme observes this daily choreography of faith and tourism with restraint, and situates it within the geography of the Jordan valley: the river's course, the reeds and the fish, the light on the water. A striking portrait of contemporary Christian devotion, filmed in 4K.
