카스르 알무트란: 그리스 정교회 성당

Qasr al-Mutran carries its meaning in its name — the residence of the bishop — and the building holds to that discretion. Stone walls close it off from the street; the way in passes through a courtyard before the church itself opens up. Inside is the ordered world of Orthodox worship: an iconostasis dividing sanctuary from nave, ranks of icons in their metal settings, hanging lamps, censers, dark polished wood and the particular half-light in which gold leaf comes alive. This programme approaches the site as a portrait rather than an inventory. It follows the rhythm of the liturgical week, the preparations before a service, the gestures of the clergy, the chant that fills the vault, and the presence of a local Christian community that has kept these rites without interruption in a region where such communities are small and closely bound. Filmed in 4K, with careful attention to low light and to the detail of icon painting and metalwork, it offers programmers a contemplative, human-scale piece — a counterweight to the great monumental sites, and a reminder that the religious heritage of the Holy Land is also made of parish churches still in use.
