네비 무사: 모세의 무덤

네비 무사: 모세의 무덤

Few buildings hold the desert as calmly as Nebi Musa. Set alone on the ancient route that drops from Jerusalem towards Jericho, the sanctuary forms a low white city of domes, vaulted galleries and small cells, built in the Mamluk period around a courtyard that has sheltered travellers and pilgrims for centuries. Islamic tradition venerates the site as the burial place of Moses, a prophet honoured by Judaism, Christianity and Islam alike, and its pilgrimage season long filled these courtyards with processions, banners and drums. Filmed in 4K, the programme reads the complex as architecture and as landscape: the geometry of whitewashed domes against ochre hills, light moving through the arcades, the cemetery scattered on the slope, the silence of the Judean Desert running towards the Dead Sea rift. A concise, visually strong portrait of a place where faith, hospitality and desert stone have been shaped into a single form.
