Das Museum von Caesarea und seine Küstenlandschaft

Das Museum von Caesarea und seine Küstenlandschaft

An archaeological site shows plans and volumes; the objects that made it a living city are elsewhere. Close to the ruins of Caesarea, this collection assembles what excavation on land and in the water has returned: marble and bronze statuary, capitals and inscribed blocks, coins, glass, lamps and small personal objects, many of them recovered from the seabed where the Roman harbour subsided. Taken together they document a port that connected this coast to the whole Mediterranean, and a population of administrators, soldiers, merchants and craftsmen. The programme films the collection in 4K and then steps outside, into the coastal landscape of dunes, ruins and open water that produced it, offering a natural companion piece to a title on the site itself for archaeology and museum strands.
