Women's monasticism has long been a discreet but essential part of Russian religious life, and convents dedicated to the Kazan icon of the Mother of God are found across the country. This programme spends time inside one of them, filmed in 4K. The approach is observational: the enclosure and its gate, the churches at the heart of the courtyard, the cells and workshops, the gardens that supply the table. Between offices, the camera follows the ordinary labour that holds such a community together, and the passage of pilgrims who come to venerate the icon. Architecture, light and the sound of chant carry the film rather than commentary. A calm and respectful portrait, suited to strands on sacred sites, monastic life and religious traditions, and readily paired with other Orthodox heritage titles.
