Vinh Trang stands among orchards and canals outside My Tho, at the northern edge of the Mekong Delta, and it is the most architecturally talkative pagoda in the region. Its ornamental gateways and main facade assemble motifs from several traditions at once — Khmer forms from the neighbouring Cambodian world, Chinese ceramic inlay and dragons, Vietnamese carved woodwork, and European columns, arches and balustrades absorbed from the colonial period — arranged with a confidence that turns borrowing into a style of its own. Inside, the halls follow Vietnamese Mahayana practice, with gilded figures ranged in tiers and heavy carved furniture darkened by incense. In the gardens stand monumental Buddha images, including a great reclining figure and a seated one visible from the road, set among frangipani and palms. The film covers the complex in 4K from the air and on foot, follows the pilgrims who stop here on their way through the delta, and reads Vinh Trang as evidence of how open the religious architecture of southern Vietnam has been to its neighbours.
