Zborov Castle

Zborov Castle

Ruins tell a different story from restored castles, and Zborov is a fine example of the genre: broken curtain walls, the stump of a tower, gateways opening onto nothing, all held in the forest on a ridge above the village. The castle guarded routes through the north-eastern Slovak borderland, changed hands among noble families, and was eventually left to decay - a slow ruin rather than a dramatic one. The film explores what survives, using aerial photography to recover the plan that is hard to read from the ground, and follows the conservation teams and volunteers whose consolidation work has stabilised the masonry and reopened the site to visitors. The surrounding Šariš landscape, with its wooded hills and villages, provides the setting. A quieter, atmospheric title for castles-and-ruins collections and regional-heritage strands.
