福陵 ― 清朝始祖の陵墓

福陵 ― 清朝始祖の陵墓

The Fuling Mausoleum, on the wooded slopes outside Shenyang, is the burial place of Nurhaci, the ruler who unified the Manchu tribes and founded the house that would become the Qing dynasty. It forms part of the imperial tombs of the Ming and Qing dynasties inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The site is designed as a sequence rather than a single monument: an approach lined with stone figures, a monumental gateway, a long flight of steps rising through the trees, walled courtyards, a stele pavilion and finally the tomb mound itself. Colour is part of the argument here, glazed tile and red walls set against pine and seasonal foliage, and 4K captures it. The episode reads the mausoleum as imperial statecraft in built form: a dynasty securing its legitimacy by giving its founder a landscape of approach, ascent and remembrance.
